Way back in 1760, the very first jigsaw puzzle was crafted by John Spilsbury. Spilsbury was an engraver and cartographer who designed a jigsaw puzzle of the world map. The chart was pasted to a piece of wood from which he cut out the countries of the world. It was spectacular and Spilsbury's creativity would beat a person's imagination even till today! Even though the jigsaw puzzles got their name from the treadle saw in 1885, the fret saw was used to cut them. Most jigsaw puzzles in 1900 were commonly made of wood and cardboard.
Because of the profund effect the jigsaw puzzle had on the thinking faculty and contribution to Geography , teachers at that time used the Spilsbury's jigsaw puzzle by putting the pieces together anytime they wanted to teach Geography.
